Offshore Expansion of IntelliView AI-Powered Leak Detection Cameras Gaining Momentum

Continuous leak detection cameras powered by artificial intelligence have been primarily deployed at aboveground oil and gas facilities, such as pump stations, pig traps and terminals. The technology’s continued adoption and exposure led to IntelliView being approached by a global energy producer in the Gulf of Thailand for a leak detection solution for offshore platforms.

The offshore production platforms connect, control, process and pump crude production from multiple offshore wells. The platforms by nature of operating in seas are within a high environmental consequence area. The large volumes of production flows from multiple wells increase environmental and operational risks. Moreover, the remote nature of these platforms make travel difficult and can create significant response delays. Leak monitoring primarily relied on pressure and flow monitoring, with intermittent manual inspections conducted by personnel. These monitoring practices lacked the ability to detect leaks early, and the absence of visual confirmation necessitates manual leak confirmation, leading to longer response times and larger environmental impact.

A feasibility study on the technology’s applicability to offshore well pad environments culminated in the development and installation of IntelliView's first DCAM-Ex (explosion-proof) system in 2019. The high-risk areas to be targeted on the platforms were the production trees, manifolds, valves and pumps. These are common leak initiation locations and are difficult to inspect and condition monitor.

Scalable and optimized to customer requirements, IntelliView vision systems provide continuous monitoring and real-time detection and alerting of liquid and NGL leaks. The autonomous system enables operators to visually confirm alarms without travelling to the platform and take immediate action - consequently reducing or averting environmental, safety and business setbacks.
